Theme One
"If stress is blocked out, success will come out"
The theme, "If the stress is blocked out, success will come out", fits the book, Million-Dollar Throw, in many ways and is showen all over the book. Nate is given an opportunity to change not only his life, but also his family and his friend's lives. When Nate is given the chance to win a million dollars, many different situations of stress are piled on top of his shoulders. The situations consist of, no relationship with his dad, family may lose their house, his best friend going blind, his best friend going to a different school, the media crawling up his back, and just the pressure of making the throw. All of these would bring stress to any kid on the planet. When Nate is presented with all this stress, he is able to block all of it out of his mind and just do what he does best, throw a football. He practices through all this stress and is able to get better and successfully hit the thirty yard throw with no problem. When the stress is not out of Nate's head though, he starts to struggle like when he was benched because of lack of play he was able to commit to the game. So clearly when he blocks out the stress he does well, but when he thinks about his stress he fails himself. When he makes that throw on Thanksgiving night, he does not hesitate or think about anything but throwing the ball through the target he successively makes the throw.
Theme Two
"Dreams are accomplished with work"
The theme, "dreams are accomplished with work", fits the book, Million-Dollar Throw, in many ways and is shown throughout the book. When Nate is given his dream to meet Tom Brady and to make his families lives better, he is also given another opportunity to make one million dollars with the Million-Dollar Throw. He realizes his dream is able to come true, but he realizes he must put in some serious work to complete his dream. He realizes all the stress on him, but he puts it past him to practice at his favorite spot which is at a quiet park with a tire hanging from a tree. He practices until it is perfect because he would know how big it would be for him and his family because of their situation of losing their house. Helping out his family would be the completion of the dream of Nate Brodie.
